Who We Are

Moyock Baptist Church is a self-governing body of believers. While we partner with other Baptist churches and denominational organizations, no other entity speaks for us.

Most Baptist churches require new members from other denominations to be baptized by immersion as a condition of membership, but we do not.

We believe that baptism celebrates the change from being “not a Christian” to being “a Christian”, and that, if you recognize someone as a Christian, then you have to honor their baptism, even if it was done in a different manner or time from what we would have done. But, we don’t get to rewrite someone’s spiritual history when they join our church.

We also hold in high regard the contribution and leadership of women in our congregation. We’ve had women preach in our worship services, and we elect women to serve as deacons, committee chairs, and Sunday School teachers.

No other Baptist body speaks for us on these matters, nor on any other issue.
